UBCTA Web Site Re-design
I volunteered on the renewal of the University of British Columbia Taiwan Association Web site when I was contacted by their president during the end of May, 2005. The site needed brand new re-design to handle more contents, and the amount of changes were enormous in terms of both data and structure. After consultation, I decided to use the excellent Drupal CMS that is used on this very site.
forty3 CMS Template
This is the first version forty3 design, which is based on the same CMS. The implementation is almost identical to this current version, except the width is not fixed, allowing larger view area on higher resolutions.
However, it does not give enough impression to visitor in terms of images and colors for a design studio. Later it was updated to the layout using on this site now.
WordPress Template
This is a fully functional WordPress template. WordPress is an excellent weblog platform that runs on most hosts with PHP and mySQL installed. The template is valid under XHTML Strict and CSS with fixed width that can view under 800x600 resolution.
A menu is available on the top of the screen to switch to other section of the site, and the sidebar is filled with bright orange to increase the contrast. The image is embedded in Flash, and it can dynamically change background colors depends on the time of the day.
Slideshow Viewer
The slideshow viewer is a add-on module for the University of British Columbia Taiwanese Association Web site. This belongs to a separated section due to the complexity of the project.
The purpose of the module is to load a list of images uploaded by the image module, and parse the list to create a slideshow. To dynamically switch between albums, simple JavaScript were used. Each album also holds a permanent link, so users can bookmark individual album.
UBCTA Identity
Membership Card
Sponsor Sticker
This project was finished with the upcoming new University of British Columbia Taiwanese Association Web site concurrently. forty3 was contracted to do both the front of the membership card design and the design of the sponsor stickers that will be given to their sponsors. Most of the elements in the graphics were taken from the Web site and modified to create streamlined looks.
SketchPad
SketchPad is a light-weighted, compact, and free RIA module for Invision Power Board forums software. It enables users in the community to be able to use various tools to draw or sketch contents and submit them along with posted contents. This module integrates into the forums using Invision Power Board 2's new attachment system to avoid conflicts with existing upload module.
StoneHaus
StoneHaus is a stone specialized company based in Vancouver, Canada. They wanted to create a Web interface that will display their services, contacting information, and product lines to interact with their customers both locally and internationally. Simple XHTML and CSS to build this site.
Unfortunately, the project was put on hold and never completed.
